Tour Plan

Day 1: Brisbane-Bargara

Departing from Brisbane Coach Terminal, we travel north, stopping for a cuppa in Gympie. Then head on to Hervey Bay for lunch and a stroll along the esplanade shops. Our destination today is Bargara Beach, where we will have the best location to see the Mon Repos Turtle Encounter. Enjoy a restful afternoon before tonight’s encounter. Mon Repos beach comes alive after dark, where we can see tiny hatchlings emerge from the sand and scurry back to the sea. Whilst waiting for the turtles or hatchlings we visit the Mon Repos Turtle Centre, browse through the shop and take in the ranger shows and videos presented in the amphitheatre.

N.B. If turtles are scarce you may have to wait for two or more hours before going onto the beach. Please also be aware that turtles are wild marine animals and although each season in the past we have always sighted the turtles, we cannot guarantee you will see either nesting turtles or hatchlings. Our evening tour has limited light and no torches are allowed and access to see the turtles is by walking on soft sand.

4 Night Stay: Kelly’s Beach Resort, Bargara

Day 2: Bundaberg

Today we discover the town of Bundaberg, starting with a visit to the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens. From here, take your time to explore Hinkler Hall of Aviation, an interactive museum that tells the story of the all-too-short life of Australian pioneer aviator Bert Hinkler. Become part of Bert’s story through glide and flight simulators, movie theatrettes, six display aircraft and a vintage motor vehicle. Next we discover the history of the pioneer sugar families from Bundaberg, uncovering the enormous contribution by the South Sea Islander community. Discover the process of producing sugar, from cane to crystal at the Fairymead House Sugar History Museum. We break for lunch, before taking a guided tour of the Bundaberg Rum Distillery. After you’ve spent some time exploring the museum, join a distillery guide on a journey deep into the heart of the Bundaberg Rum Distillery. Once you’ve experienced the sights and smells of the distillery, you’ll return to the Bundaberg Rum Tasting Bar, where you can sample any of the top shelf rums.

Day 3: Lady Musgrave Island

A vast, calm, turquoise lagoon with white sandy coral beaches completes the picture of Lady Musgrave Island and Coral Lagoon. The largest true coral cay on the outer Southern Great Barrier Reef, and one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. The Island is set on 3000 acres of living reef with a 1000 acre calm coral lagoon that is unique to the entire Great Barrier Reef. Our full day reef experience includes a glass bottom boat cruise with 6 metres of coral viewing, a guided island walk and snorkelling (equipment provided) with tropical fish, turtles and more. **It is an open ocean passage to Lady Musgrave Island and we strongly recommend that any passengers who suffer sea-sickness be prepared with precautionary measures

Day 4: Bargara

We travel slightly south today, to visit Snakes Downunder Reptile Park and Zoo. Here we take a guided tour of the park which features over 45 species and sub-species of Australian reptiles, amphibians and marsupials. The attractions include a fantastic snake house, a walk though vivarium housing dragons and frogs, a kangaroo reserve where the animals can be hand fed, koalas and inquisitive meerkats. Next, we step indoors to escape the heat and have lunch at the historic Paragon Theatre. Originally a hall, the building was converted to a theatre in 1927. Enjoy a talk about the history of the building before watching a short film on the big screen. This afternoon we make our way back to Bundaberg and relish in a refreshing tasting session at Ohana Cider House & Tropical Winery, accompanied by a talk about the delicious range of hand-crafted apple ciders, tropical wines and liqueurs.

Day 5: Bargara-Brisbane

Homeward bound this morning, we break at the Childers Backpacker Memorial, before enjoying morning tea. Back on the road, our next stop is at the historic Mary Valley Rattler Café in Gympie for lunch. After lunch, we step on board the iconic and meticulously restored Mary Valley Rattler Steam Train and travel the Mary Valley through Dagun to Amamoor. Sit back and relax whilst enjoying the breathtaking scenery that takes us alongside the Amamoor State Forest, home to more than 120 species of birds. We disembark the train in Amamoor and re-join the coach for our journey back to Brisbane Coach Terminal, arriving late afternoon.

The Australia part of our trip has sadly finished. In a word, it has been amazing! We owe a lot to our travel agent Tammy Aitchison, who asked the right questions, gave us insightful guidance when planning this trip and basically ironed out the wrinkles we would have undoubtedly experienced had it not been for her assistance. You will discover that her professionalism and attention to detail is world class and her customer service is second to none.

– Alan B

We had a terrific family holiday arranged by Redcliffe Cruise Travel and we wouldn't hesitate to have them assisting us with our next trip. Because we like you guys! Because you are a local company. Because we like having an agent behind us in the event things go wrong on the journey.

As popular as do-it-yourself travel is and as savvy as we are with all things online, there are some aspects of travel that are much better dealt with through a travel agency and someone who really knows what they are doing. Tammy and Redcliffe Cruise and Travel are so knowledgeable and experienced in dealing with those aspects of travel that are challenging. Its good to work through someone who knows what they are doing and who take as much interest in you having a great holiday as you do!!

– Nette G

The service provided is always helpful and comprehensive. The booking documentation is always delivered on time to allow checking and to make changes if necessary.
