Tour Plan

Day 1

Choose to drive or fly to the beautiful Mackay Region with our Mackay Explorer Itinerary. From Moreton Bay Region, Mackay is approximately an 10.5 hour drive and a 1.5 hour flight from Brisbane Airport.

If you choose to drive, we recommend leaving early in the morning and stopping at places such as Bundaberg and Rockhampton along the way.

If you're flying, plan to pick up a hire car when you arrive at Mackay Airport so you can easily get around to explore in your own time.

Once you have arrived, check into your accommodation. Take some time to relax and recover from the journey especially if you choose to drive.

Pick up some food and head down to Sunset Bay in Eimeo to watch the sunset over the water before heading back to your accommodation to get an good nights sleep.

Set the alarms for early tomorrow morning!

Day 2

Pack a picnic hamper to take with you this morning.

The early morning wake-up will be worth it when you get to your destination this morning. Cape Hillsborough National Park is renowned for the phenomenon that occurs by the waters edge on Cape Hillsborough Beach. 45 minutes north of Mackay, at sunrise, wallabies of all kinds come down the the waters edge to enjoy an early morning breakfast, making this the perfect time to snap your very own iconic sunrise wallaby photo. We recommend heading down an hour before sunrise to ensure you have plenty of time to see these beautiful creatures.

After spending time at Cape Hillsborough beach, head back down towards Mackay to Lamberts Lookout. Sit at the picnic tables and enjoy your breakfast as you lookout over the ocean.

After breakfast, go for a walk to the JL's Rockpools. Dip your feet in the water, look for sealife in the rock pools or just take in the beautiful scenery.

Spend the remainder of the day exploring the local area and familiarising yourself with your surroundings.

Enjoy lunch at Coco Cubano before continuing exploring.

Day 3

Head out to Finch Hatton Gorge and Eungella National Park. With waterfalls and lush flora and fauna, this really is a must-visit when in Mackay. With your walking shoes on, begin your walk from the Finch Hatton picnic area to the Aualen waterfall. This is a 1.6km journey making it an easy walk for most ages.

If you want to continue exploring and are looking for a more challenging walk, make your way for another 1.4 kms to Wheel of Fire Cascades.

After exploring the stunning Finch Hatton Gorge, jump back in the car and go for a drive through Pioneer Valley. One of the richest sugarcane growing areas in Australia, making this drive incredibly picturesque. Be sure to stop on the side of the road to snap a picture of the towering sugar cane.

Head to the Avatar Country Day Spa and Spiritual Wellness Centre in the afternoon, before heading out for dinner at CC's Restaurant.

Day 4

Check out of your accommodation and grab some breakfast from a local cafe before either beginning your drive home or heading to the airport.

The Australia part of our trip has sadly finished. In a word, it has been amazing! We owe a lot to our travel agent, who asked the right questions, gave us insightful guidance when planning this trip and basically ironed out the wrinkles we would have undoubtedly experienced had it not been for her assistance. You will discover that her professionalism and attention to detail is world class and her customer service is second to none.

We had a terrific family holiday arranged by Redcliffe Cruise Travel and we wouldn't hesitate to have them assisting us with our next trip. Because we like you guys! Because you are a local company. Because we like having an agent behind us in the event things go wrong on the journey.

As popular as do-it-yourself travel is and as savvy as we are with all things online, there are some aspects of travel that are much better dealt with through a travel agency and someone who really knows what they are doing. Redcliffe Cruise and Travel are so knowledgeable and experienced in dealing with those aspects of travel that are challenging. It's good to work through someone who knows what they are doing and who take as much interest in you having a great holiday as you do!!
