Ekka Long Weekend Itinerary

Just because the Ekka isn't going ahead this year doesn't mean you have to stay at home! Make the most of the new Ekka Long Weekend and get out of the house and spend the weekend by the beach, in the city or exploring the hinterland!

1. Caloundra

Sandy beaches, salty air and crashing waves, Caloundra is the place to be for that seaside escape you've been dreaming of.

With an abundance of beach-side restaurants and cafes, green spaces for picnics and games, and of course that sparkling ocean wrapping around the peninsular, you won't want to go anywhere else!

With several beaches within walking distance of each other you can spend your days beach hopping between Shelley Beach, Bulcock Beach, Kings Beach, Moffat Beach and Dicky Beach. Stop by Happy Valley Park for some down time or take a picnic lunch to the Shelley Beach Picnic and BBQ Area and cook up a storm on the BBQ tops.

Looking for somewhere to stay? Ocean View Resort is at the southern end of Caloundra with easy access straight off the highway. With prices starting from $290* for the 2 nights you can't go wrong!

*Prices are based on 2 adults from 8-10 August. Prices available for additional guests. Other accommodation options available.

2. Mapleton

Take a drive up to the beautiful Sunshine Coast hinterland town of Mapleton. A quaint town west of the Sunshine Coast, Mapleton is not short on charm. A short drive to several natural attractions and must visit surrounding towns makes Mapleton the perfect place to sink away into serenity for your long weekend.

Looking for things to do? For cheese lovers the Maleny Cheese Factory is a must visit! The award-winning dairy products are heavenly and for cheese connoisseurs, an absolute dream! After you've eaten more cheese than your body can handle or have stocked up for the weekend, journey south to the charming, mountainous town of Montville. Explore the village shops including the nostalgic Monty's of Montville for some old school candy and milkshakes, the Cuckoo Clock shop, handmade jewelry stores, and of course the infamous Montville Chocolate Country shop!

Pack a picnic and drive up the mountains of Maleny until you find the perfect roadside spot for a hillside picnic. Throw out the rug and lookout over the rolling hills as you breathe in the fresh country air.

Want to get active and explore the hinterland further? Walk the Kondailla Falls trail to the Kondailla waterfall and watch on in awe as the water cascades down the rockface into a ladle of cool, mountain water just waiting for you to dip your feet into. Don't forget to stop and take in the expansive views at the lookouts along the way. West of Mapleton is where you'll find the Mapleton Falls Lookout. High above the tree tops is where you'll stand looking out over the Mapleton Falls National Park. No hiking is required as you can pull the car up right to the lookout making it easy for anyone take advantage of the stunning views!

Wine lovers rejoice! The Flame Hill Vineyard in Montville is the ideal place to sit back and sip on the deep red swirls and crisp white droplets of vineyard wine. Why not stop by The Barrel at Clouds Vineyard and pop into their wine barrel shaped restaurant for a spot of lunch and of course, more wine!

Stay at the Mapleton Springs for 2 nights from $642* and explore the tranquil Sunshine Coast Hinterland this Ekka Long Weekend.

We couldn’t be happier with Redcliffe Travel. Their wonderful agent, Tammy, recently booked our flights to Zimbabwe. Her attention to detail was fantastic! Her communication was outstanding, keeping us updated and even checking in after our return to ensure our travel went smoothly. We highly recommend Tammy and the team at Redcliffe Travel.

The Australia part of our trip has sadly finished. In a word, it has been amazing! We owe a lot to our travel agent Tammy Aitchison, who asked the right questions, gave us insightful guidance when planning this trip and basically ironed out the wrinkles we would have undoubtedly experienced had it not been for her assistance. You will discover that her professionalism and attention to detail is world class and her customer service is second to none.

– Alan B

We had a terrific family holiday arranged by Redcliffe Cruise Travel and we wouldn't hesitate to have them assisting us with our next trip. Because we like you guys! Because you are a local company. Because we like having an agent behind us in the event things go wrong on the journey.

As popular as do-it-yourself travel is and as savvy as we are with all things online, there are some aspects of travel that are much better dealt with through a travel agency and someone who really knows what they are doing. Tammy and Redcliffe Cruise and Travel are so knowledgeable and experienced in dealing with those aspects of travel that are challenging. Its good to work through someone who knows what they are doing and who take as much interest in you having a great holiday as you do!!

– Nette G

The service provided is always helpful and comprehensive. The booking documentation is always delivered on time to allow checking and to make changes if necessary.

– Beris & Jim B

I have used Tammy at Redcliffe Cruise and Travel twice now to book our family holidays. We have found her to be very professional and efficient. She has also been very obliging when I have had to ask questions regarding our holiday. We will definitely be using her in the future.
