The Best Sunrise and Sunset Locations in Queensland

There's nothing better than seeing the sun turn into a warm glow whether it's early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

From the first peek of morning sun to the last touch of warmth at golden hour, sunrises and sunsets will forever be a spectacle to behold. There's something calming and ethereal about watching a sunrise or a sunset that makes you want to freeze that moment in time.

We've found some of the best spots around for you to sit and watch the sun as it rises in the morning or sets in the evening.

1. Woody Point, Redcliffe - Sunset

Sit on one of the park benches along the waters edge and watch as the sun turns to gold and slowly settles beneath the horizon. Watch as the last rays of sun glimmer on the water and the sky turns hues of pink and orange as you take in the last few minutes of warmth.

Extend your visit and enjoy a walk along the jetty, ride your bike along the footpath or walk around the peninsula to take in the last moments of the sunset from every angle.

Visit one of Brisbane's best lookouts early in the morning to watch the sun rise from behind the city skyline and light up the sky.

From a viewing point set atop a mountain you are guaranteed to have some of the best views around for break of day.

Only a 20 minute drive from Brisbane, this spot is the perfect place to start your day!

4. Tamborine Mountain, Gold Coast - Sunset

A grassed hill, sweeping mountain views and a beautiful sunset, what more could you want!

Throw a blanket down, pour the wine and pull out the cheese platter as you sit back and watch the sun settle along the mountain tops.

5. Bullocky Rest, Lake Samsonvale - Sunset

As the sun kisses the horizon sending golden rays out across the placid waters of Lake Samsonvale, it will be hard to think about anything else in that moment other than how beautiful the view is.

Take the picnic rug and lay it out on the grass, pull out the grazing board along with your favourite drink to sip on and watch as the sun goes down. A quiet place perfect for an afternoon picnic, Bullocky Rest does not disappoint! Plan your Bullocky Rest adventure with the help of Visit Moreton Bay here.

One of the best spots to watch the sun set on the Gold Coast is Burleigh Hill. You will find locals and visitors alike dotting the grassed hill with blankets, picnic baskets and cold drinks in hand any given afternoon.

Look out over the surf as the sun begins to lower and watch as Burleigh Hill is touch by the warmth of the afternoon sun.

Now that's a perfect afternoon!

7. Cape Hillsborough, Mackay - Sunrise

One of Australia's most iconic phenomenon's and absolute must see is the sunrise at Cape Hillsborough, Mackay

.Just before dawn, at first light, you will find kangaroos making their way down to the beach to enjoy an early morning breakfast. With the sun rising from the horizon over the water, it is the perfect backdrop for a truly amazing sight. Get there early to catch the first glimpse of sunlight as the sky and water is lit up in a delicate morning glow. Make sure you take your camera because you won't want to miss capturing a photo of the kangaroos at sunrise at Cape Hillsborough.

Paddle out on your surfboard through the surf to calm waters and sit with front row seats to watch the sunrise as you float in the water, a truly special moment. If you don't feel like taking a morning dip and would prefer to stay dry, sit on the grassed area overlooking the water with your morning coffee in hand and watch the glowing morning sun rise over the water.

9. Whitsunday's - Sunset

There's nothing quite like watching a sunset from the beach of a beautiful island but we think watching the sunset as you sail through the water on a yacht is even better! Take your sunset viewing to the next level and book a sunset cruise through the Whitsunday Island's. Sit on the bow with a drink in hand and feel the wind and afternoon sun on your skin. Watch as the sky gently fades through colours and the soft glow of the sun setting sending beams of light across the islands. Watching a sunset in the Whitsunday's is a truly special experience.

The Australia part of our trip has sadly finished. In a word, it has been amazing! We owe a lot to our travel agent, who asked the right questions, gave us insightful guidance when planning this trip and basically ironed out the wrinkles we would have undoubtedly experienced had it not been for her assistance. You will discover that her professionalism and attention to detail is world class and her customer service is second to none.

We had a terrific family holiday arranged by Redcliffe Cruise Travel and we wouldn't hesitate to have them assisting us with our next trip. Because we like you guys! Because you are a local company. Because we like having an agent behind us in the event things go wrong on the journey.

As popular as do-it-yourself travel is and as savvy as we are with all things online, there are some aspects of travel that are much better dealt with through a travel agency and someone who really knows what they are doing. Redcliffe Cruise and Travel are so knowledgeable and experienced in dealing with those aspects of travel that are challenging. It's good to work through someone who knows what they are doing and who take as much interest in you having a great holiday as you do!!
